Rajaiah sold 3000 acres to 'some Rajus'

3 Feb 2009

HYDERABAD: High-profile land broker Akula Rajaiah said he sold nearly 3,000 acres of land to alleged "benami companies of some Rajus" in Ranga Reddy and Nalgonda district.

"Only now, after reading news reports I realised that these were front companies of Maytas Infra and Maytas Properties," the teacher-turnedrealtor told TOI in a telephonic interview.

Rajaiah, who is on the radar of CID for his high profile links, said he might have done transactions of over 4,000 acres of land in these two districts since 1997. He claimed his transactions were worth Rs 40 crore.

‘‘I have not bought any farm land. I made transactions of only wastelands like hillocks for development of surrounding areas of Hyderabad.''

He said representatives of small companies led by some Rajus came to him seeking to purchase land. He brokered the deal and sold land to those companies. ‘‘Most land I sold was at the rate of Rs 67,500 per acre and the companies made payments in white. Still, another 1,000 acres are in the possession of farmers as they have to get full payment,'' Rajaiah said.

‘‘ As alleged by some people, I did not make huge profits in the land deals. I sold them with less profit,'' he said, but did not divulge how much he made money in each deal.

Rajaiah said he had not purchased any land in Rachakonda areas as being alleged by Communist and TDP leaders. He claimed he carried out land transactions only in Khudabakshpalli and Loyapalle villages of Nalgonda district. The realtor said land in Malkapur village of Nalgonda was sold to Maytas by one NV Rao of Ocean Park and Pappu Naik.
